Edward R. Fried, an international economic policy advisor in the Johnson, Nixon, and Carter administrations, foreign service officer, Brookings Institution scholar, board member of Capital Partners for Education, and Board Chair of Metropolitan Refining Company, died on May 8, 2011 at his home in Chevy Chase, Maryland. He was 93. He is survived by Joyce, his wife of almost 70 years; four children, Harold Fried, Amy Belasco, Leni Fried and Ana Stayton; and four grandchildren, Sonia and Nathaniel Belasco and Steffi and Clara Fried. He served as an inspiration to his children and many long term friends. He will be sorely missed. Services will be held privately.
