Hinman, Myra, 1926-1992
Myra Mahlow Hinman, 66, Lawrence, died Tuesday, Feb. 11, 1992, at the Kansas University Medical Center in Kansas City, Kan. No services are planned. Mrs. Hinman, an associate professor of English at KU, was born Jan. 11, 1926, in Saginaw County, Mich., the daughter of Henry and Cynthia (Mims) Mahlow. She earned a bachelor's degree in 1946 from Columbia University, and a master's degree in 1954 and a doctorate in 1959, both from the University of Florida. She married George E. Olstead in 1948. They divorced in 1967. She married Charlton Hinman in 1968. He died in 1977. Mrs. Hinman was an assistant professor at Memphis State University from 1959 to 1961. At KU, she was an instructor from 1961 to 1963 and an assistant professor from 1963 to 1968 before becoming an associate professor in 1968. She received a travel grant from the American Council of Learned Societies in 1966. She was a member of the Modern Languages Assn., University of Virgina Bibliography Society, American Association of University Professors, Midwest Modern Language Assn., South Atlantic Modern Language Assn., United Burmese Cat Fanciers, American Shorthair Cat Assn. and Phi Kappa Phi. Mrs. Hinman was a member and conference speaker for the International Arthurian Society and belonged to and presented research reports at conferences of the Shakespeare Association of America. She was associate editor of the Hinman Text, Complete Works of Shakespeare; a member of the editorial board for the Computer-Assisted Composition journal; and contributed articles to professional journals. Survivors include a son, Christopher Eric Olstead, Kingwood, Tex. Mrs. Hinman's body was donated for medical research.
