"Writing poetry makes me feel like a whole person. I make very little money from it, but it keeps me from being just average.' " That's what Roger - Sauls, new manager of the Intimate's Paperback Gallery, has to say about thft hundred or so poems he has had published in small magazines.
The 23:year-old Georgia native and graduate of Georgia State College had his first poem, one about nature, published when 19 in FORUM. He lists his "heroes of poetry" as James Wright and Robert My.
Sauls managed a bookstore in Atlanta before joining the staff of the Intimate. He finds the "quaintness and pic turesque qualities of Chapel Hill appealing. "Chapel Hill gives you an unhurried atmosphere and nice surroundings, plus all the cultural opportunities you find in larger cities." He plans to add a large number of books to the Intimate's paperback collection, especially works of modern poets the sort of thing a college student should know about and read."
