Marvin, Ross Gilmore, 1880-1909
(Ross G. Marvin or Cornell University, then about thirty years old, next to Captain Bartlett was Peary's right-hand man to the expedition which reached the Pole April 6, 1909; subsequently the two Eskimos with him, Kudlooktoo and Inukisoq, the latter better known as Harrigan, reached the steamer Roosevelt in winter quarters at Cape Sheridan, and repoted Marvin's death. On April 10, they said, he had broken through rubber ice while trying to cross a lead and drowned. The truth is that Marvin was shot and killed by Kudlooktoo. This farthest north murder, say the Eskimos, was committed to save the life of Harrigan.

BiogHist
(Ross Gilmore Marvin (28 January, 1880 – 1908) was an Arctic explorer who took part in Robert Peary's 1905–1906 and 1908–1909 expeditions. It was initially believed that Marvin died in an accident on the second expedition, at the age of 29, but later evidence emerged that he may have been murdered. There is still controversy regarding the real causes of Marvin's death)
