Communications Workers of America, Local 1151 represents AT&T and Bell System employees in the Albany, NY area. The Local has its historical roots in the founding period of the CWA, and a strong tradition of involvement in the CWAs national activities, based on the involvement of its long-time president Frank Karl. In addition to his service to the Local, Karl was a long-standing member of CWAs National Bargaining Committee. Not long before the donation of the records to the Archives, Local 1151 merged with the CWAs local in Syracuse, New York.

Founded as Local 6 of the Ohio Federation of Telephone Workers, an autonomous member of the National Federation of Telephone Workers which was founded ca. 1937. The NFTW became the Communications Workers of America in 1947, but the OFTW did not join until 1949.
