Great Northern Pacific Steamship Company

Incorporated in 1914 under the state laws of Oregon, the company constructed and operated steamship and dockage facilities in the Columbia River and the Pacific Coast. It also operated two ocean-going steamships ("Great Northern" and "Northern Pacific"), which traveled from Flavel, Ore., to San Francisco, Calif., and to the Hawaiian Islands. All property and assets were conveyed to the Spokane, Portland and Seattle Railway Company in 1921. The charter was allowed to lapse in 1933.

The company, incorporated in 1900, purchased (1905) and operated two large steamships on the Pacific Ocean, carrying cargo and passengers between ports in Washington and the Orient, primarily Japan. One ship, the Dakota, was wrecked on the Japanese coast in 1907. The remaining ship, the Minnesota, was sold in 1917 and the company ceased doing active business. It was dissolved in 1927.
