Cheney, Richard B., 1941-

Richard B. "Dick" Cheney was born in Lincoln, Nebraska, on January 30, 1941 and grew up in Casper, Wyoming. He earned his bachelor's and master's of arts degrees from the University of Wyoming. His career in public service began in 1969 when he joined the Nixon Administration, serving in a number of positions at the Cost of Living Council, at the Office of Economic Opportunity, and within the White House. Cheney served as the Deputy Assistant to the President for White House Operations from September 1974 to November 1975, and as Assistant to the President for White House Operations ("Chief of Staff") from November 1975 to January 1977. He began his term as U.S. Representative from Wyoming in 1979 and became Chairman of the House Republican Policy Committee in 1981. Cheney was elected Vice President to George W. Bush in 2000.
