Ransom, John B. (John Bostick), 1920-2000
John B. Ransom, III was born Sept. 12, 1920, in Nashville, Tenn. He graduated from Wallace University School and attended Vanderbilt University from 1938 to 1940. He then transferred to the University of the South, earning a bachelor's degree in 1942. After serving in the U.S. Army in World War II, he earned a master's degree in American literature at Stanford University, writing a dissertation on the fiction of Robert Penn Warren. He then attended Oxford University and the Sorbonne before serving for ten years in Paris as education adviser for the Army's Seine Area Command. He served as Director of Admissions at the University of the South and then became Secretary of the University. He died in Sewanee, Tenn., on Mar. 4, 2000.
