Planter and state senator (1782-1788) of St. Bartholow Parish [Colleton County] and Charleston, S.C.; native of Bristol, England; Lloyd was living in S.C. by 1759 when he is known to have been a partner in a succession of firms involved the fur trade and the slave trade, including Inglis, Lloyd & Hall; during later Colonial era, Lloyd represented St. Michael's Parish in the Royal Assembly (1768-1771); other offices held include delegate to the state convention in 1788 where he voted in favor of ratification of the federal Constitution; brother-in-law of British emigre potter and ceramist Richard Champion (1743-1791); Lloyd married three times: in 1764, 1782, and 1789.
