Cooper, Walter Jackson Sir, 1891-1973.

Walter Jackson Cooper was elected to the Senate for Queensland at the general election of 1928 but was defeated in 1931. Re-elected in 1934, he was returned at subsequent elections until he retired in 1968. He served as a senator for a total of 37 years, in the course of which he held the post of Minister for Repatriation from December 1949 to December 1960, and served as Leader of the Country Party in the Senate. He died in July 1973, a condolence motion being moved in Parliament on 21 August 1973.
