Maria Guadalupe de Jesús Vallejo (1844-1904) was born at Mission San Jose, California. She was the daughter of José de Jesús Vallejo and Maria Soledad Sanchez de Ortega of Alameda County, California, and the favorite niece of General Mariano Guadalupe Vallejo. Educated at Notre Dame Insitute in San Jose, California, she played piano, spoke five languages, and was a teacher of languages in San Francisco, California.
