André Lafargue was born in New Orleans in 1879 of French parentage. After studying at Tulane Law School, he practiced law in New Orleans, becoming the attorney for the French consul. He served on numerous committees devoted to the preservation of French culture and language in Louisiana, as well as on other community-oriented organizations.
