Nathan, Robert, 1894-1985

Author Robert Nathan was born in New York City and educated in New York, Switzerland, the Phillips Exeter Academy in New Hampshire, and Harvard. He worked in advertising and education before earning a living as an author; he has written poetry, essays, and drama, but is chiefly known for popular novels. His books are distinguished by charming, delicate prose, which creates a unique mood of mild fantasy; often sentimental, his work is also gently satirical. He also wrote screenplays, and several of his books have been made into movies, notably The Bishop's Wife.
