Perrot, Nicolas, 1644-1718

Perrot was a fur trader, voyageur, and envoy to Native Americans, he came to the new world as an agent to the French missionaries. His knowledge and influence with the Indians was often used by the French government in dealing with the tribes of the old Northwest. In 1688 he took formal possession of the Mississippi in the name of the King. His many services to the government were never repaid. His memoirs on the manners, customs and religions of the North American Indians have been published in the Bibliotheca America by A. Frank.
