Colonel Wier G. Boyd (1820 -1893) was born to William R. Boyd and Elizabeth Burton in Hall County, Georgia on September 14, 1820. His family moved to Lumpkin County, Georgia in 1835. On February 9, 1843, he married Sarah J. Sitton. They had five children: Augustus; Lydia; Marion; Martha; and Sarah. In 1850, Boyd was elected Clerk of the Superior Court.
