Purdy, Al, 1918-2000
Al Purdy was born in Wooler, Ontario in 1918. Canadian poet and writer, Purdy won the Governor General's award for poetry in 1965 for the Cariboo Horses, then again in 1986 for Collected Poems. As a working class poet he won the 1987 People's poet award (in memory of Milton Acorn) for Collected Poems.
