Tyrrell, J. W. (James Williams), 1863-1945

James William Tyrrell was born in 1863. He graduated from the University of Toronto with an engineering degree and qualified as a land surveyor. After serving as hyrdographer on a government expedition to Hudson Bay during the winter of 1885-86, he set up a surveying practice in Hamilton, Ont., which he continued to operate until the 1930s. Tyrrell played an active role in developing the mining industry in Canada, surveying mining properties throughout the country He died in 1945.
