Don Coupland (b. 1915, Warsaw, Ind.-d. June 16, 1988), U.S. Air Force officer, graduated from Purdue University in aeronautical engineering in 1936 and completed flying schools the following year. In his early career he was assigned as airplane commander and engineering officer of the 35th Pursuit Squadron; served as procurement and production project officer for training and transport aircraft; and after completing the Air Corps Engineering School, became chief of the Engine Section, Maintenance Division, Wright Field, Ohio. He actively participated in establishing the first jet engine overhaul facility in the U.S. In July 1944 he was assigned to the 20th Air Force in Guam; and following the War, he attended the Air Force Institute of Technology and the Air War College. In 1951 he was appointed director of materiel, U.S. Air Forces in Europe, and later deputy commander of the Air Materiel Forces, Europe. In the early 1960s he became commander of the Ballistic Missiles Center and then vice commander, Ballistic Systems Division, Air Force Systems Command. He was named auditor general of the Air Force in 1964 and retired in November 1967.
