Bywaters, Mary McLarry, 1904-1988
Mary McLarry Bywaters was born September 4, 1904, and died in October 1988. She married Jerry Bywaters, an artist, in Dallas, Texas, on November 3, 1930. They had a daughter, Jerry Bywaters Cochran, and a son, Richard P. Bywaters. She was a founding member and first president of the Dallas Civic Ballet, and founder of the Dallas Dance Council. A graduate of SMU, she taught piano privately in Dallas for forty years. She served on the boards of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra, Chamber Music Society, and Margo Jones Theatre. She was a lifetime member of the Southwest Regional Ballet Association and a member of the National Association Regional Ballet in New York. She was also general manager of Dance Ensemble, a modern dance company in Dallas. Her daughter and granddaughter, Mary Cochran, are dancers.
