Sheldon, Harold P. (Harold Pearl), 1888-1951
Harold Pearl Sheldon was born in Fair Haven, Vermont, on November 13, l888. He joined the U.S. Army in 1910 and served in World War I in Europe. He was commandant at Fort Ethan Allen until 1919. He became Vermont Commissioner of Fish and Game in 1921 and served in that post until 1926 when he was named Chief U.S. Game Warden with the Bureau of Biological Survey. In 1934 he was placed in charged of the Division of Public Relations for the Fish and Wildlife Service. Sheldon retired in 1943. He received an honorary degree from Norwich University.
Sheldon was an expert in the field of firearms. In the 1930s and 40s he was the editor of the "Guns and Game" department of "The Sportsman" and subsequently for "Country Life" and "Outdoors Magazine." He was also a contributor of hunting vignettes and antecdotes to other periodicals in the field.
