Barriere, John E. (John Ernest), 1919-
John Ernest Barriere (1919-1998) attended the public schools of Worcester, Massachusetts, and graduated from Clark University with an A.B. in History in 1942. After World War II, he attended graduate school at the University of Chicago in the Department of Political Science. From September 1947 to May 1948, he interned with the National Institute of Public Affairs, an organization that tried to interest young men and women in permanent careers in the Federal Government. Placed with the National Labor Relations Board, then the Senate Banking and Currency Committee, Barriere worked on the 1948 Truman presidential campaign in the staff research division of the Democratic National Committee. He served as a member of the House Banking and Currency Committee from 1948 to 1965, and as a member of President-elect Kennedys task force on Housing and Urban Affairs in 1960.
