Women's fashion designer born in Portsmouth, Virginia. After graduating from the New York School of Design, he worked at Corbeau et Cie in the 1920's and from 1933 to 1942 co-owned Joseph Whitehead, Inc, a maker of high-priced afternoon, dinner, evening and wedding dresses.
