Constellation Similarity Assertions

Blake, George West, 1839-

The first regular local transit in the city of Philadelphia was offered by James Boxall, who began operating a local stage coach on Chestnut Street in 1831. Larger omnibuses began running on Second Street from Kensington to the Navy Yard in 1833. By 1857 there were 322 licensed omnibuses operating on the streets of Philadelphia. Between 1858 and 1865 numerous street-railroads were constructed, which entirely superseded the omnibus as a form of local transit.

From the description of Record of omnibus lines in the city of Philadelphia, 1851-1854. (Hagley Museum & Library). WorldCat record id: 122516054
