Clark (1837- ) who lived in White Pigeon, St. Joseph County (Mich.) was the son of Mary E. (d. 1867?) and Robert Clark, Jr. (d. 1837). His father was a Deputy U.S. land surveyor. John grew up in Michigan and moved with his mother and brother to a dairy farm on Clark St., Cook County (Ill.), outside of Chicago in 1849. The dairy farm made them quite wealthy.
