Prentis, Noble L. (Noble Lovely), 1839-1900
Noble Lovely Prentis was born April 8, 1839, in a log cabin three miles from Mount Sterling, Brown County, Illinois. His father and mother died at Warsaw, Illinois in the cholera epidemic of 1849, leaving him an orphan at the age of 10. He enlisted with the 16th Illinois militia during the Civil War and thereafter published and edited newspapers in Missouri and Illinois before moving to Kansas in 1869. In Kansas, he worked on such newspapers as the Topeka Record, Topeka Commonwealth, Atchison Champion, Junction City Union, Newton Republican, and finally worked on the editorial staff of the Kansas City Star. In 1866 Prentis married Miss Maria C. Strong, with whom he had two daughters. She died in Atchison in 1880. In 1883 he married Mrs. Carrie E. Anderson, of Topeka. Prentis died July 6, 1900, at the home of his daughter, at La Harpe, Illinois, within a few miles of the place of his birth. ["Noble L.
