Harold Chapin was an American-born British playwright. He lived in England from 1888 until he joined the army and was killed in France during World War I.A stage actor from the age of seven, he joined the Glasgow Repertory Theatre in 1910 as a producer. He began his playwriting career with Augustus in search of a father (1910) and subsequently wrote the comedies The Autocrat of the coffee stall (1911), The Dumb and the blind (1911), and Art and opportunity (1912).
