George Bryan Porter was born at Broome, N.H., 1803; studied law and was admitted to the bar; settled in Detroit, 1829; was some years with Dorr & Jones; then in the old Bank of Mich., and cashier of the Kalamazoo branch; with James F. Joy he founded the legal: firm of Joy & Porter, 1837, and was connected with it until his health failed, 1857; died in Detroit, Aug. 21, 1882.
