Barber, William Scott
William Scott Barber was born January 22, 1944, the third child to Robert and Kathleen Barber. Bill graduated from Judge Memorial Catholic High School in Salt Lake City, and obtained a Masters of Fine Arts degree from the University of Utah. In the early 1970's he was Technical Director for the Pioneer Memorial Theatre, and taught lighting, makeup, sound, and set design at the University of Utah. He then left for southern California to work with Walt Disney Enterprises on such projects as Epcot, Tokyo Disneyland, and various other endeavors. While residing in California, his talents were utilized by Wet Laboratories (designer of outdoor fountains), Alchemy II (creators of children's animated toys Teddy Ruxpin and Friends), and Technifex (a special effects company). Having lived with a progressive case of rheumatoid arthritis since his late 20's that limited his mobility over the years, he retrained as a graphic designer in the early 1990s and returned to Salt Lake City in 1996. For the last eight years of his life he worked at Juan Diego and St. John the Baptist Catholic Schools doing their graphic designs and publications, as well as assisting the theater department. Barber died in December 24, 2007.
