Kinget, G. Marian (Godelieve Marian), 1910-1997

G. Marian Kinget was born in Belgium on June 2, 1910. Kinget is best known as an educator and psychologist with a focus on humanistic psychology. Kinget received her M.A. in 1943 from the University of Louvain in Belgium and later received her Ph.D. in 1948 also from the University of Louvain.

Kinget came to the United States in 1948 for post doctoral study at New York University, Columbia University and the University of Chicago, where she worked with Carl Rogers. Kinget naturalized to the United States in 1957. She became an assistant professor of psychology at Michigan State University in 1952 and she continued to teach after she received the title of Professor Emeritus in 1981. Kinget taught such courses as "Humanistic Psychology" and "Love and Will." She has been credited with teaching the first formal course in humanistic psychology in America. Kinget died on February 27, 1997 in Okemos, Michigan at the age of 86.
