Welch, Constance L.
Constance Welch received her B.L. and B. S. degrees in 1922, and an M.A., 1924, from Northwestern University. She joined the Department of Drama faculty in 1929 as an instructor in diction. She later was an assistant professor, 1932-1938, and associate professor, 1938-1967, of play production, and from 1939 to 1967 was head of the acting department which she founded. After reaching the mandatory retirement age in 1967, she taught at Southern Connecticut State College, Brown University, and Florida Atlantic University until 1974. Welch was also involved in summer stock productions and on Broadway and directed the Yale Radio Plays produced by playwriting students. She died in New Haven on June 20, 1976.
