Atherton, Alfred B., b. 1843.
Dr. Atherton was born in York County, New Brunswick in 1843. He was educated at the University of New Brunswick (1862) and studied medicine and surgery at Harvard University graduating with M.D. in 1866. He completed Post-graduate studies at the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons in Edinburgh and obtained his L.R.C.P.S. in 1867. Dr. Atherton practiced medicine in Fredericton for his entire career. He was an active member of several professional associations and sat on the Senate of UNB for twelve years.

Alfred Leroy "Roy" Atherton, Jr. was born November 22, 1921 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. A graduate of Harvard University, he served in the United States Army during World War II and joined the U.S. Foreign Service in 1947. He served at posts in Stuttgart, Bonn, Damascus, Aleppo, and Calcutta as well as several positions in the Department of State's Bureau of Near Eastern and South Asian Affairs in Washington, D.C.
