Nordale, Katherine D.

Katherine D. Nordale (1902-1994), the daughter of James C. and Mary Driscoll, was born in Reardan, Washington. Educated at Washington State University, she began her teaching career in Fairbanks, Alaska, in 1925. In 1930 she married Alton Gerald Nordale, but was widowed in 1935. Thereafter, she held a number of different positions in public service, including deputy clerk of court in Fairbanks (1935-1943), U.S. Collector of Customs (1951-1953), and Juneau postmaster (1964-1971). During the winter of 1955-56 she served as an Alaska-at-large delegate to the Alaska constitutional convention, one of only six women among the fifty-five delegates.
