Walter Austin, a resident of Masschusetts, issued funds to Edward H. Thompson (ca. 1860-1935) for one of Thompson's Yucatan expeditions. Thompson was the first American Consul to Yucatan and an amateur archaeologist, known for dredging the Sacred Cenote at the Mayan ruins at Chichen Itza Mayan. Austin wrote and visited Thompson and issued bank drafts to Thompson and his wife Henrietta Thompson.
