Fletcher, William B., 1837-1907

William Fletcher was the son of Indianapolis banker Calvin Fletcher and was trained as a physician. During the Civil War he served with the 6th and 10th Indiana Volunteers, was captured in 1861 while serving as a scout, and was held at Libby Prison for seven months. He returned to Indianapolis and practiced as a physician with Theophilus Parvin. In 1868 he helped to found the Indiana Medical College, and acted as superintendent for the Indiana State Hospital for the Insane from 1883-1888.
