Edward C. Sharpe (1870-1901) was born in Ann Arbor, Michigan. In the 1890s, he moved to Seattle, Washington, where he worked for the telephone company. In July 1897, accompanied by brother-in-law Arthur Cole and friend Henry Pearson, he sailed for Skagway, Alaska, aboard the steamer "Mexico" to join the Klondike gold rush.
