A native of Kentucky, William Taylor (d. ca. 1850) a cousin of former president Gen. Zachary Taylor, was the proprietor of two plantations, Lakeland and Briers, in Pointe Coupee Parish, Louisiana. Lakeland Plantation was located on the Mississippi River opposite Bayou Sara and operated as a sugar plantation. Briers Plantation was a cotton enterprise located on Bayou L'Atenache.
