Ross McFarland is regarded as the father of human factors in aviation. A researcher at the Fatigue Laboratory at Harvard University in the 1930s and 1940s, McFarland joined the faculty of Harvard School of Public Health in 1947, and later became the first occupant of the Florence and Daniel Guggenheim Chair of Aerospace Health and Safety at Harvard.
