Born at Detroit, Aug. 2, 1787, the son of Angus Mackintosh and Mary Archange Baudry dit Desbuttes dit St. Martin. He grew up at Detroit and at Moy, Sandwich., Ont., and engaged in shipping on the Great Lakes. He accompanied his father to Scotland when the latter became head of the Clan Mackintosh in 1831.
