Richardson, Augustus G.

Augustus G. Richardson, officer of the California Stage Company, was a resident of Sacramento, California. The California Stage Company was formed in Sacramento in 1854, with James E. Birch elected president and Frank Shaw Stevens as vice-president. In 1855, the company extended its lines into territory south of San Francisco, and when James Haworth replaced Birch as president in 1856, he promoted northward expansion of the lines. By 1860, the company had disposed of its southern lines and, operating mainly from Sacramento, Folsom, and Marysville, concentrated on their government contract for mail service from Sacramento, California, to Portland, Oregon. The contract expired in 1864 and was not renewed.
