Sociologist and feminist Alice S. Rossi graduated from Brooklyn College (B.A. 1947) and Columbia University (Ph. D. 1957). A founder and board member of the National Organization for Women (1966-1970), Rossi also served as president of the American Sociological Association (1982-1983).
