Northrop, Helen

Helen Northrop was born in 1870 to Rufus and Agnus Northrop of Tunkhannock, Penn. She graduated from Mount Holyoke College and took a position as a teacher at the State Home for Orphans in Twin Bridges, Mont. During her time at Twin Bridges she boarded with John R. and Frances M. Comfort. Comfort served as the secretary of the board of trustees for the orphans' home. Northrop returned to Tunkhannock by 1900 where she worked as the secretary of UNCA. She married Marcus Adams sometime before 1910 and they lived in Chatham, New Jersey. By 1930, Northrop is once again living in Tunkhannock and is listed in the census records as a widow.
