Evans, Raymond E., 1923-2000
William E. Raymond Evans (b. May 1899) and his wife, Josephine Weiss Evans, of Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, had at least one son, Raymond E. ("Ray"), born on November 4, 1923. Ray joined the United States Army before 1944 and, after undergoing training at Camp Pickett, Virginia, served as a private first class with Detachment B of the 77th Station Hospital until around March 1944, when he joined the 93rd General Hospital. He remained with the 93rd General Hospital in England throughout the remainder of the war, and was promoted to technician fifth grade in January 1945. He returned to Bethlehem after the war, and lived there for the remainder of his life, working as an insurance agent. In September 1948, he married Elsie M. Wagner, and they had at least 2 children: Barbara L. Evans (m. Leet) of Raleigh, North Carolina, and Brent A. Evans of Fairfax, Virginia. Raymond E. Evans died on September 21, 2000.
