Spero Dardaris was a United States (U.S.) Army soldier who served in World War II (WWII). He was born in Syracuse, New York, on 28 December 1919, the son of Albanian immigrants. Dardaris enlisted in the U.S. Army in March 1941 and was sent to Fort Monmouth, New Jersey, to the Signal Corps School. After completing training in November 1941, he was sent to Manila, Philippines. During World War II, Dardaris was sent from Manila to Bataan. He became a prisoner of war (POW) when Bataan was surrendered to the Japanese on 9 April 1942. Dardaris spent three and half years in captivity. After the war ended, he was hospitalized for three months in the United States. After three months of rehabilitation leave, Dardaris was discharged in May 1946.
