Photographer. Came to California for gold; was on North Fork, Feather River in 1857; in Grass Valley 1863; Nevada, 1868. Worked as a one man band, taught dance. Moved to Eureka and Arcata when he went into photography business. Moved to San Francisco. Then settled in Monterey in 1881.

C. W. J. Johnson arrived in California during the Gold Rush. After living in Feather River, Grass Valley (1863), and Nevada (1868), he moved to Eureka where he opened a photographic business.
