Myron Abbott was born in Pike County, Illinois, on December 1, 1837. Abbott's father died in 1843, leaving his mother to care for him and his seven siblings. In 1849 the family traveled in a Mormon company to Salt Lake City. Abbott married Laura Allen, the first of his four wives, at Ogden, Utah, in 1860.
