Elizabeth Jane Miller, 1878-1961, was born near New Ross, Indiana. In 1908 she married Oren Stephen Hack, an Indianapolis attorney who died in 1942. Her four published novels were The Yoke in 1904, Saul of Tarsus in 1906, The City of Delight in 1908, and Daybreak in 1915, all issued under her maiden name.

Elizabeth Jane Miller (1871-1965) was the daughter of Dr. Francis Frost Miller and Susette Henes, and was born and raised on Highland Avenue in the Brooklyn neighborhood of East New York. In the early 1890s, she attended school in Germany. In 1894, she married Charles E. Miller at Trinity Church in East New York.
