Lloyd Library and Museum.
The Library is the realization of the dream of the Lloyd Brothers; John Uri, Nelson Ashley and Curtis Gates. The Library itself dates from the first books that John Uri bought during his pharmacy apprenticeship in 1864 in Cincinnati. By 1886 the brothers had gained control of the Merrell and Thorpe Company and renamed it Lloyd Brothers, Pharmacists, Inc. Over the next decades the company gained prominence as the manufacturer of "specific medicines". John Uri took the lead in developing new products and processes while Nelson Ashley took responsibility for the day-to-day management of the company. Curtis Gates took a less prominent role in the company but a very important one in the development of the Library and its collection. In 1919 the brothers established the Trusts that continue to fund the Library and its collection, in almost the same location in Cincinnati where it started over 130 years ago.
