Adriance, John

John Adriance, a native of Troy, New York, went to Texas in 1835. After participating in the Texas Revolution, he was engaged in the mercantile business, first with Cyril Beardslee at Columbia from 1836 to 1839 and then with Morgan L. Smith with whom he carried on business with foreign ports and owned and operated Waldeck Plantation. Adriance was involved with the promotion of railroads and canals, and he was a deputy for the Commissary Department and a county commissioner during the Civil War.
