Biography Isaac Perkins was born in Massachusetts February 2, 1816. He came to California in 1850 and became a general merchandise and lumber merchant in Sacramento. In 1867, he moved to San Joaquin County and started a flour mill. In later years, he was a banker in Modesto, where he died June 18, 1893. William Lee Perkins was born on February 10, 1736, in Suffolk, Massachusetts, and his brother Isaac was born on September 4, 1741. They were the sons of physician John Perkins and his wife, Abigail Lee. Like his father, William studied medicine; in the 1760s, he was recognized for his work in Massachusetts fighting smallpox with inoculation.
