Scholberg, Henry

Henry Scholberg, B.A. (1943) University of Illinois, B.S. (1954), M.A. (1962) University of Minnesota. First librarian of the Ames Library of South Asia at the University of Minnesota. Henry Scholberg was born on May 29, 1921 in Darjeeling, India, where his parents were missionaries. He earned his B.A. from the University of Illinois in 1943 and his M.A. in library science from the University of Minnesota in 1962. During World War II, Scholberg, a conscientious objector, participated in the voluntary starvation study conducted by Ancel Keys at the University of Minnesota's Laboratory of Physiological Hygiene. In 1961, Scholberg was appointed as instructor and librarian of the newly created Ames Library of South Asia. He was promoted to assistant professor in 1966, associate professor in 1974 and professor in the 1980s. Scholberg was a well known scholar and author of bibliographies and works on India. He retired as professor emeritus.
